Hey guys, I know this is well documented and I have links to some guides to install the BT probe in the Hottop bean chute. I'm leaning toward doing it this way because the new BT/ET method looks a bit too much for me right now.
Question: If I go with the Amprobe TMD-56 multimeter/logger, what probe(s) should I get to accompany it? These Omega probes? http://www.omega.com/ppt/pptsc.asp?ref=JTSS-HH Is there a difference in probe brands and are they all compatible with different multimeters?
I think that the KTSS-HH is what you want as most devices referenced here use K probes. Unless you need logging there are less expensive meters just to monitor temperature like: THIS and this, and this.
With most meters you will find that they accept the K mini plugs, so any K probe so equipped will work. There is an excellent thermocouple comparison chart HERE on Wiki. basically, the probe type you select will decide accuracy and range, and of course, cost and availability is also a factor. Check eBay.
I have an article on how to do the bean probe through the chute cover. It includes a template on approximately where to drill/punch the holes. If you flip the template over and do both sides of the cover you can insert two probes. Be aware that the angle and depth of the probes is critical. Not just for accuracy, but it is also important to set it up so they are always at the same places. Beyond that, if the BT probe is inserted too far and hits a stirrer in the drum, it will bend it quite a long way!
