I've spent the past hour reading posts about roasting, and I think I have a fair understanding of the main issues. I have a nice, big Weber Genesis E-320 grill hooked up to my natural gas line, and a Weber rotisserie grill motor, so on the surface it seems like I'm mostly there. However, I do have a couple of questions that I was hoping I could get some help with.
Does roasting on a grill affect the flavor of the food, or vice versa? I have found arguments both ways.
Will I immediately need to upgrade the stock rotisserie motor that I have? My goal is to roast small amounts - 1 pound batches.
Will it end up being more cost-effective and easier to simply look at a Behmor to start?
Will my wife comment about me being insane, or merely shake her head and walk away?

1) I haven't done enough to really comment, but as long as you're not doing both at the same time, keep up on cleaning, I haven't noticed anything personally.
2) I don't know what your stock is. For a 1lb batch, I'd suspect the stock will be ok but hopefully someone else will come in with better knowledge there
3) It'll be simpler and easier to start out with a behmor. It's not more cost effective to buy both lol. Behmor is great and I love mine, but bbq and behmor are two different beasts. So this really comes down to what you're after
4) the fact you're posting here means she's probably already done both.

I've been roasting coffee in a drum roaster on the grill for around 8 years and have never had any off flavors in my coffee or my steaks. It's just a matter of cleaning your grill before doing either.
You do not necessarily need to upgrade your rotisserie motor. I normally use a hand crank believe it or not to roast with my drum. I can go as fast or as slow as I need to and I didn't spend a dime on it.
Possibly both, until she sees realizes you can roast 4lbs. or more coffee at a time. Then she will be shaking her head wondering why you didn't buy one sooner.
