KN-8828B-2K owners manual update.
An Interim Update to the owners manual for the KN-8828B-2k has just been added to the Hottop USA website. It can be downloaded from this page. The direct link for the addendum PDF is HERE. This is not a complete manual. It only includes the KN-8828B-2K section (for the most part). All other models should continue to refer to the appropriate manual, and all other important information regarding the KN-8828B-2K is in the current printed manual, a PDF version of which can be downloaded HERE.

I lower the heat during the drying phase around 250f on the HT display and keep it there until around 290f. I found that the HT temp probe is accurate for a brief time period around 250f. Prior to that the HT temp is higher than the actual BT and after 250f the actual BT is higher than the HT temp. After my warranty expires I plan on installing a BT and ET probe for data logging.
You can get a BT into the roaster without any real mods. I took a wire thermocouple and passed it through one of the seams in the plastic casing, then routed the thermocouple through a few existing holes in the roaster. I was able to position the thermocouple at the front of the roaster and angle the tip down so it gets solid contact with the bean mass, but doesn't hit the fins of the roaster. It might not be perfect, but it has given me consistent results for months. I can post pics sometime if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the links- I ended up going with two wire probes- ET just above and BT just below the built in sensor. Been happily roasting away with Artisan and more accurate data ever since-- all thanks to the folks like you that paved the way.
