the unit came nicely packed. kudos to the shipper. i have been roasting with a fresh- roast 8, and older model, boy did i take a step up. i am impressed with how quiet this unit is. hearing the crack and controlling roast is very easy. what i have noticed already is how even each bean roast. not so with the fresh-roast. not enough air movement with those machines, imho. the light on the behmor is great. the new improved low profile chaff collector is great for visibility. my first espresso was wonderful. more crema, smooth. it is nice to roast almost 1/2 lb. the beans will age nicely. i am very happy with this roaster. cheers!
It was helpful that you've had previous experience roasting! Provided you have a proper 118-120v coming out of your wall, you can easily roast 12-14oz in one session, using the 1#/P1 or P2/A or B profiling. This, of course depends on the bean, whether a blend or SO, etc.
Perhaps get familiar with the beans you are roasting, whether SHB (strictly hard bean) high grown, lower grown, like Brasils, etc. Sweet Maria's.com has lots of information, and there are books by authority Ken Davids to help, as well.
Be sure to follow the manual's cleaning instructions, and NEVER leave this, our any other roaster unattended. Here's hoping you have many years of enjoyment with the Behmor.
Google wiki coffee roasting and check out what wiki has thrown together. They have a visual comarison with temp in C/F as well as an accurate idea of where your roast is at while listening for crack 1 & 2. I use this everytime I roast with great results using a popper! I hope to get a Behmor soon which should make for an even better cup!
