Subject: Cleaning a Popcorn Pumper?

After having gone through approximately 50 roasts with my Popcorn Pumper, it looks as though the well could use a good cleaning.  There is a bit of dark residue building up inside there and I'm wondering if it could adversely affect the quality of my coffee.  Anyone have any tips on how to clean the thing, or is it really necessary?
I was thinking of trying to use a solvent such as acetone to cut through the residue, and then running it a few times to volatilize any residual acetone before I continue roasting.
Thanks.
Bob

I think you just wipe it with a wet sponge, then let it dry
