Started getting to know my new Behmor last night, managed to run 2 burn in cycles last night then roasted off 8 oz of Peruvian Andea Gold and 12oz of Espresso Milano. Used P1 for the Peruvian and got to know 1st and second crack. Used p2 for the Espresso and am not quite sure I really touched 2nd crack. The backing off of the heat profile was a tad different tna I expected. 1st crack started about 11 minutes in and continued for almost 4 minutes, random pops and snaps but nothing too loud, not as loud as the Andes Gold was. I believe I may have pulled the roast early as I was trying to follow the "10 seconds in to 2c" rule but is that 10 seconds when 2c starts rolling or at the first snaps of 2c?
From what I'm noticing 1c has a few randome poppers in blends so it's harder to target when 1c and 2c actually start and end but the SO was much easier to notice. I'm not sure what the actual temps were as I had thought that the Behmor told you that but I'm guessing a temp prob needs to be put in, it's ok as I was going to get one anyway. I am very impressed by the ease of use and quality of the machine. Simple enough I'd even be able to teach my wife how to roast if for some reason I couldn't. Clean up was a snap. I'm letting both beans rest atleast 2 days and see where I stand. The Andes smells really nice, but the Espresso it a tad bitter to the smell, 1 hour post roast.
I'm very happy, roasted 1.5 lbs (My usual weekly consumption) in less than an 40 min of attended time. (I didn't watch the cooling as I didn't see the need to babysit a fan)
BTW the little square on the top of the Behmor, it glows red, is it a heater as well?

Congratulations on your new roaster. The Behmor is widely recommended.
Questions:
Will the Behmor do a "dark" roast? I thought I saw note in some Behmor documentation indicating that it doesn't really do dark roasts. Yes, no?
I only roast for espresso, and my desired roast level is ~10-15 seconds into the 2C (so is that FC++, or maybe light Vienna?). Anyway, I need at least FC roast. What's the going price on a used Behmor? Would it be worth it? How would I verify the working condition? etc. etc....??

Congrats on your new roaster azerik. Yes with the P2 setting you can get faint 1st cracks and then get the drop off of in the power and will sometimes roll silently into 2C. You can get a little more control with P1 and opening the door for 15 sec after 1st crack starts and extend 1C for about 2 minutes before you reach second crack. Depends on the moisture content in your beans too. I have been using P3 a lot and adjusting the oz's to 14 for 1 lb settings. 1st roast with any new bean is a trial run. So I give myself enough room to reach 2C if needed.
Yes you can get dark roast with the Behmor. It takes 8-10 oz of beans with the 1 lb setting though. Got to watch these roast very carefully. A small spray bottle with water handy helps curb any chafe fires if you are opening the door to extend 1C. I usually open the door about 1 min after roast to cool the beans a little faster. And the ability to blend what beans and what nuances I want in my espresso is a lot of fun. So many coffees so little time. lol.
P.S. I don't suggest roasting the 8 different kinds of coffee in the sapple pack from roastmasters and trying them all in the same day. Wow. Sleeping may become difficult. lol. Happy Roasting!

$300 to $320 shipped, from SM's or Roastmasters or possibly others. It comes with 8lbs of greens so you can get to know it, ($32 est value and dang helpful, also offsets the price, that same 8lbs roasted would run over $120) FC is totally possible using smaller batches as described.

Chocolate Alchemy sells Behmor factory refurbs @ $199, but doesn't have them in stock at the moment.. They do have a waiting list though, so I'd phone & see.

I couldn't get ahold of a refurb so I went new, I'm sure if I would have waited longer I could have a refurb instead, worth saving the $100 and putting that tword about 20#'s of greens, nearly 1/3rd the year supply for me! Last used one I saw for sale was $180, $20 more and you have a warranty to boot!

Electric appliances that heat up, particularly to 400° or so, have hard service. It may last for a number of years, it may last only one or two. I would never buy any heating appliance used unless I knew for sure that the heating elements had been replaced or it was dirt cheap. I had the heating element in two Alps go in less than a year and I have already replaced the afterburner (it's nothing but a wire heating coil) on my Behmor (sent by Bob Rodda at Behmor for no charge BTW— excellent Customer support with Behmor).
You're right doing dark roasts by timing the cracks (or by smell if you really have that skill). You can't tell easily by bean color on the Behmor and if you wait to see any oil during the roast, you're already in a dark French. I usually run my espresso roasts (typically 10 oz of dry processed Brazil and some highlight coffee) about 20 seconds into a full second crack. It gives me a Vienna or what some might call a Full City+ that shows a little bit of oil after a few days. I also open the door about 1 minute into cool-down (Pretty messy. I roast in the garage with a shop vac nearby) —never had a chaff fire, but I would never leave the machine until at least half the cooling cycle has been completed.
