I just purchase some green beans over the net and have noticed that some of the beans are coated with a green paint/dye. Is this normal? Safe to roast and consume?

You should first contact the supplier You should post pics here Depending on the outcome of the above, it would be good to share the source of the beans.

I have contacted the supplier and he says they are food grade dye that they paint the bags with during auctions. I dont know if thats a true statement or not thats why im asking the question here among people that are much more knowledgable then I am. I dont want to ruin anyones reputation or anything like that. I just want to be sure its ok for consumption. Ill post some photos. Out of the 5LBS, iv pulled out about 42 grams of beans that are painted.
That sounds really fishy to me. I would be cautious about this, and select different supplier. I have never received beans with any coloring on them from Sweet Marias.

First I'd send them back for sure. Second, if you are curious if it is dye, try scratching some off. If it is embedded in the bean its likely a dye of some sort. If it is just a layer that flakes off easily it is likely paint that they sprayed their markings of the bag with.

Return and get money back. What kind are the?Even above the green dye or whatever, the beans look in sad shape .Where are they from?Nobody should be selling anything that looks like that.

Im gonna wait a little longer and see if anyone else chims in with more info. Still in the process of resolving this with the vendor. The beans are Kenya AA Auction Lot "Ichamara". Btw Thanks everyone for the advice
