I'm sure there has to already be a post somewhere about roasting for drip/filter coffee but I cannot track it down.
I have only ever roasted for espresso and am pretty new to the world of roasting anyway. I'm about to try to roast some Kenya AA Auction Lot #526-Tegu. I read somewhere that this is good for a drip/filter coffee and I want to roast some of it for my friends. I'm roasting on a hottop B and would love a reference to a thread re:roasting for drip and/or any advice that can be given about how to go about it. For example can I roast FC, FC+ and get reasonable results in a drip machine? Thanks in advance! Pangib

Anything that's passed 1st crack is gonna be fine as far as being 'done'. Think of 'barely being done with 1st crack' as equal to City roast.
I've never used a hot top so I cannot give you time lines for City +, Full City, FC +, etc...it could be as short as 30 seconds on an aggressive 'hot air roaster' like a fresh roast...or several minutes on a 'gentle' roaster like a behmor (those are the 2 roasters I do own and can relate to).
So to answer the question, yes, City to Full City + is the 'norm' for non-espresso roasts, and would work in a drip pot, siphon pot, or french press. Different roast levels bring out different flavors in the bean.
At city, it might have a 'berry' flavor that disappears at Full City....

To get the nice kenya caracteristics I'd shoot for a city+. A straight city might be a bit light for those who aren't used to a city light roast. I have no experience with a hottop but you will generally want to extend the time after 1st cr. without progressing the roast as fast as you would for a full city+ roast. Slow the bean temp. rise as your going through and after 1st cr. (5-8degrees rise/min.). But not by lowering the ET(environmental temp.). It's a bit tricky but when achieved will give an amazing cup with a very nice kenya like the one your using. farm

All very helpful thoughts. I'm attempting to slow the temp through 1st and into 2nd. Ed, can you explain your comment about not by lowering ET. How do I do that?
From what I've read having the capacity to measure BT is vital but I'm not yet completely sure of the big difference between measuring internal bean temp and ET (this is what the HT does with its default sensor) I'm going to hook up a thermocouple into the mass over the next week but will do it at this stage because of recommendations rather than understanding.
