If you search the Internet, you can find coffee wood at places that supply smoking wood. We use coffee wood for smoking on the grille, and it is very nice. It is a moderate strength smoke like pecan. I also grind roasted coffee with an espresso fine grind to add to rubs for additional flavor.

I roast in my garage and after roasting have a wonderful toasted nutty smell in there for the next couple of days. I love the smell but my family always complain about the odours coming from my clandestine lab!!!
Realize that there is a difference between roasted coffee, which is what you are asking about, and burned coffee, which is what you would be producing (or come close to producing) in a BBQ.
Coffee also goes through various smells stages during roasting: grassy, bready, toasty, smoky, charcoaly... unless you start with already-roasted coffee, which would give you more consistent results but may not produce the same results as roasting.
You might get some reasonable results if you started with already-roasted coffee, kept it damp enough so that it smoked slowly but didn't burn, and prevented it from ashing up. I don't know if burning coffee is significantly different from wood, but maybe it is.
