Can anyone recommend  a Green bean seller who charges no more than $4.00 a lb ( with shipping included in that price if I buy at least 15 to 35 Lb's in one shot)?

I've been buying from a seller on ebay & it comes out to under $4.00 a lb when I buy at least 15 lb's from him (shipping is included in that price)

I just wanted to try some other seller's out there but don't want to get ripped off & pay $7-$8 a lb for raw beans.

And in my opinion $8.00 a lb is a rip off when theres people out there charging half that price shipped.

I have an iroast & use the beans for espresso & french press.

                                                                                             Thanks for any help

Are you buying from 2 cups of joe? He is who I use, he is cheaper than SM, u-roast-em, coffee corral, and burhman coffee traders.  If you are going to be doing 25 or more you may want to try coffeebeandirect.

thanks steve,

Yes, I do buy from 2 cups of Joe.

Does raw green bean quality vary that much too justify places like SM for charging twice the price of 2 CUPS JOE?

Would the difference in taste be that noticable?

Am I missing out on something here?

I concur with Steve on CoffeeBeanDirect.com.  Excellent pricing and qualilty, and if you do order 25 pounds or more you get Free Shipping to anywhere in the U.S.  I also heard good reports on the 2 cups of Joe regarding quality and price; I am going to try them sometime, but for now I am sold on CoffeeBeanDirect.

The Green Beanery Mod Edit: Commercial link removed! has good prices, especially for larger quantities.  Look for "Wholesale & Bulk" green coffee down the left side.

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

There's average, and then there's great. I've never known Tom to offer less than great, shading towards spectacular. Once or twice every couple of years we end up by chance offering the same coffee at the same time, despite the odds involved. I cupped around 20 coffees to get to the Honduras Marcala Estate for this month, and it stood out like dog's balls. Tom cups hundreds and came to the same conclusions I did. It's always nice to have my palate vindicated!

What you're paying for from Sweetmarias' is the huge amount of work and the expertise that guarantees that you only get the best of the best. If you can't taste the difference (or if you CAN but won't pay for it) that's your problem, but you're definitely NOT being ripped off.

I couldn't agree more.  I've never been disappointed by an order from SM, but I've been disappointed by others.  Trying to save $1.25 or $1.50 per pound just isn't worth it to me.  But then again, I'm working on a 1 pound/week habit, and I'm the only coffee drinker in the house.

Now these two last posts are one great reason that I enjoy reading this site.  As a newbie to roasting I want the best (I can't afford it with wine anymore).  These opinions mean a lot to me.

SM beans have not disappointed me.

Thanks
