I'm adverse to pulling a load out with the emergency shutdown and cooling. I've done it a few times and just think it is more hassle than I want to do, and I could not discern a difference in taste between using the GC cooldown cycle a bit earlier than finish of the roast, and external cooldown from emergency stop.

I did like the blueberry with this profile. However, I let it roast a bit too much and got too much roast flavor for me. Totally my fault because I forgot about the brand new heater box, but the blueberry was good!

I hear the cracks best at about 8 feet away, to the left of the machine, with the chaff catcher pointed towards me.
My roast profiles depend on the bean. High grown get a 471 until 30-45 seconds into 1st crack, lower grown start at 462 for the same length. Each gets turned down respectively to 455 and 449, pulling as needed, usually just before 2nd crack. Works very well for me with 283 grams. Konas - 465 all the way to full city.

After 2+years of HG/DG and one year of working the wife:) I just ordered a Gene with the “Fathers Day special” which includes the large vented shaft collector for free.
Reading this thread is going to do a lot to get me started getting use to the new machine, any profiles for the pre-blended espresso from SM or coffeewholesalers? 90% of what I roast is pre-blended espresso.
I plan to do a quick stop at end of roast and do all cooling externally with fan and colander….. think I can do 2 back to back roasts in about 35 mins?
ditto... I just got a GC and 5lbs. each of 3 different pre-blended espressos ("choco", "come_to_papua", "melo" from Greenbeanery). My first batch last night was a disaster! I know it's not rested long enough but even so it tastes REAL bad. I was afraid of over roasting so I had 240g set for 13.2 minutes @ 482 - when it seemed like this wasn't going to do it I bumped the time up but got so flustered I forgot exactly how many ticks I added! (duh...) but I'm fairly certain it started its cooling cycle at or before 14 minutes.
I had it on top my stove and the range hood fan was so noisy I didn't hear the 1st crack. Maybe it didn't even get there? It seems like being unable to hear second crack might be a problem. Is there any other reliable way to estimate it? Is there a big puff of smoke at that point? How useful are other peoples profiles if their power supply is different (does that make a big difference?).
sigh... any advice on roasting pre-blend espresso (or GC roasting in general) is very welcome!

I tried another roast of the same espresso blend using 1/2 lb. (227g) of beans - set the temp on max (482) and let it run for 14 minutes then reduced the temp to 472 and then started the cooling cycle 2 minutes later. The result looked a tad darker than I intended but after resting overnight the results were terrific!! My wife preferred it over the cup I made her using beans from a local "artisan roaster" !!
AFter I screwed the first roast I was worried the beans were no good, or the process was going to be too difficult but after the second roast my opinion has changed completely. The beans from GreenBeanery are easily as good (or better!) than anything I've tasted anywhere and roasting coffee isn't any more difficult than making espresso!
