The real question is how much coffee do you put in your filter for a single pot?  Some people drink it like tea and others like mud along with everything in between.

16g of coffee per 8 cup pot.

How old are you?  As you get older excessive caffeine can cause a slew of problems; i.e. acid reflux, palpitations, diarrhea, high blood pressure.

Have read many articles on the positive effects of coffee though and only a few on the possible negative effects. I think I even told the doc how much coffee i drink and he didn't think it was bad. I'm sure different docs have different opinions though.

I think most coffeegeeks drink coffee for the taste. I mean look at all the things we do over and above just getting a cup of coffee.  Someone who's just drinking coffee just for the kick wouldn't go to so much trouble to weigh out their water & grinds, they'd be happy enough with donut shop coffee and Folgers from a Mr. Coffee machine.

When I do temporarily abstain, it's for a medical reason (typically acid reflux) so I have tea for a week to reset.
