Have read many articles on the positive effects of coffee though and only a few on the possible negative effects. I think I even told the doc how much coffee i drink and he didn't think it was bad. I'm sure different docs have different opinions though.

I think most coffeegeeks drink coffee for the taste. I mean look at all the things we do over and above just getting a cup of coffee. Someone who's just drinking coffee just for the kick wouldn't go to so much trouble to weigh out their water & grinds, they'd be happy enough with donut shop coffee and Folgers from a Mr. Coffee machine.
When I do temporarily abstain, it's for a medical reason (typically acid reflux) so I have tea for a week to reset.
