I was admitted to this hospital Monday for emergency surgery. The hospital is SDA, and you're not getting caffeine there. Well, buy Wednesday night, with my last cup on Sunday AM, I was into full blown caffeine withdrawals. My head hurt worse than my incision.
The nurse got me a cup of something very stale, very dark, very store bought, that had been sitting on the burner for close to three hours.
It was the best sip of coffee I've ever had.
Now, I don't want to ever taste it's like again, but it did what it needed to do, and it left me human.
When talking with people about coffee, I sometimes differentiate between culinary coffee and medicinal coffee. I have a small can of pre-ground in the cabinet labeled "In caffeine emergency, break seal."

Susan, I hope everything will be OK with the surgery! Having just been down that road with my wife, I can fully relate.
Which hospital were you in? I was not aware of a SDA run one. I am most familiar with Riverside Community as it is the one we have been to the most in the IE. Long Beach Memorial is the one we were just in and is our "normal" hospital.
I can relate to that cup o sludge and after so long, being OK to drink!
Again, praying all went well with all aspects of the surgery.
In real life, my name is Wayne P. Anything I post is personal opinion and is only worth as much as anyone else's personal opinion. YMMV!
Feed the newbs, starve the trolls and above all enjoy what you drink!
