It is Saturday and I am waiting for the delivery of three bags of coffee. The BW, ears peeled, gives me the high sign that she hears the mail truck and I should head out to the curb and get the post. I go to the curb and see Mr. Mailman in his truck doing something curious. He is smelling a package. He drives up and says, " This has been driving me crazy all morning. I was thinking about how I could possibly substitute something else and take this home."

I explain why it smells so good (good beans and fresh roasted).

"That stuff makes me wish I had a lot better in my carry cup." he says lifting his container.

"Wait right here. I just brewed a chemex pot of Ethiopian coffee from Metropolis, a Chicago roaster." says I, and scooting back to the house I bring out the pot and fill his now emptied carry mug."

Drinks.  Smiles. "I gotta talk to my wife about buying better beans." and off he  goes on his rounds.

Happy New Year and good coffee to all.

Happy New Year and good coffee to all.

Well here's a thought, pack some of those beans into a little packet for an air freshener for your car.  Should be good for a week or two of great coffee smells.  The fresh roast beans that I take to friends is always well noticed if I happen to stop somewhere to shop, then return to the car after a short while.  It always pulls a comment from the wife about how great it smells.

Not wanting to go OT but …:

A local coffee shop in Thornhill Ontario, 'Java Joe's'  has, in the corners of the mens' washroom, 4 open plastic containers on the floor, filled with ground coffee.

What's up with that?

This is what we call “a good smell to bad intention”. This driver is a coffee lover; he knows the smell that it’s a good coffee.

Did you know...? Dark roast coffees actually have less caffeine than lighter roasts due to the fact that the process of roasting burns off caffeine.
