No, I didn't buy the beans, but only a cup of coffee from the coffee shop.
The person behind the counter were preparing my coffee, by grinding first and then by syphon or others.  Meanwhile, he put the container for the grounds of my cup of coffee, he means for other people to smell it.

You should suggest to him to offer an extra sample of grounds for that purpose instead of using the ones used for preparing coffee.

Some people can't help but smell the delicious aroma. Hope that doesn't happen again to you. That's disastrous.

Did you know...? Dark roast coffees actually have less caffeine than lighter roasts due to the fact that the process of roasting burns off caffeine.

It is a kind of frustration for me, in some sense.  People are directed to the wrong way in my own understanding.
But I can hardly do something against it.

No worry, I should be quite and keep my eyes to them only and wait for change or for something different, in this case.

I was worried to say that only because I am in the coffee business and people may mis-understood that I was there for some bad things, but in fact not.
It is safe to say nothing there.

The only time I would consider it acceptable to enjoy the fragrance of the coffee would be when
it is being weighed for the sale. I agree that it is selfish for a barista or merchant to smell the coffee of the buyer. Bag it and tag it. Or grind it and brew it. Any time lost in between these steps will depreciate the end product.

It's worse than that.
Since that coffee bar gathered many coffee lovers, the barista do not only smell my coffee grounds, but also put the grounds on the desk and let everyone passing through smell it.  It means that my coffee grounds was touched by many strangers.
I know they are not quite familiar to the food service, but that is too much and should be a very essential rule.
