Subject: Kauai coffee....

So.....my mil went to Hawaii and mailed us a bag of coffee.  It is from Kauai coffee plantation.
Now, she knows I use beans and I prefer dark roast.  But never mind that.
She sent ground medium roast Koloa Estate.  Supposedly, this was all they had.

I've read people rave about Kauai coffee.
Maybe it is just me.
My favorite is Sumatra.  I like that deep tobacco flavor.    Mexican Chiapas is ok.
This stuff tasted like...........well, there was the time I licked a corrosive battery when I was 4 or so.  I thought it was carmel.  Well....this had that awful metallic lemony taste.  I could not drink it.  My older kids who I have trained to love Sumatra could not stand it.  My younger kids drank it and declared it good.

Am I missing something?
Was it the roast or is this coffee just not the one for me?

I know you usually use whole beans, but you need to avoid pre-ground coffee at all cost! Try a medium ground coffee, that YOU grind and then make your decision. Maybe medium roast is not your cup of coffee, but experiment with it a bit and give it a try. Take care!

I have tried Kauai coffee, three years running, roasting my own.  I have never found a variety from Kauai that I found worth drinking.
