Hi all,

I just bought a 3 cup Chemex coffee maker with an unfolded half moon filter. I have seen multiple videos how to fold the filter and use the Chemex but whenever I pour the hot water the coffee starts dripping with no time. I am not rushing the water and the coffee should start to bloom but I can't get it to do so. Has anyone faced this?

Hi CraigA,

From the time of roasting: 17 days (well isolated)
From the time of grinding: 5 days (well isolated)

I followed the same instructions multiple times but I still the coffee drips within the first presence of water. Is it even a problem? I mean is it OK for the dripping to start or must it begins after moments from pouring the water?

Edit: didn't notice your question :/

I agree with Eric (xeonsamari).
Also your coffee is on the old side & past its prime.

Roasted whole bean coffee should be ground just before you begin the brew process. If your coffee is ground & 5 DAYS OLD as I'm reading it, it's garbage.

Coffee will begin to stale & oxidize & loose aromatics at the grind size needed for your Chemex within say 15 minutes!

+1

You will not get a bloom from pre-ground coffee.
