Are you using whole bean? If not, that's probably step 1, just try the whole bean DD medium and grind it yourself.
For low cost straight-forward coffee of decent consistency, try the Eight o Clock 100% Colombian. It isn't "knock your socks off" but it ain't bad if prepared well.
I talked with reps at Smuckers (owners of the Dunkin' Donuts brand) and Eight o Clock - they both use semi-standard 12 months use-by dating, meaning the day it was roasted and packaged is the use-by minus 1 year. If it says "use by 9/14/13" it was roasted and packaged on 9/14/12. Try and find packs that have the oldest use-by dates. I've personally been able to find them as early as 3 1/2 weeks from "use-by minus 1 year".
Caribou Coffee breakfast blend is also pretty consistent. That's one of their lighter roasts.
The medium roast is semi-equivalent to Starbuck's Blonde roasts, so Veranda and Willow blend are decent choices - but some folks seem to find it somewhat bland. I've had really good luck brewing it with fine grind in aeropress, CCD (about 3 minute steep), and coarse grind 5 minute French Press.
Get the Hi elevation. Very mellow, with nice chocolate notes and aroma. You get a true pound (not 12 oz for seemingly same price), and it's definitely a straight-up full city (right at 2nd crack) roast.
There's a few choices for you, anyways.

Let me take a little different tact. What is it about DD coffee that you like in particular? Coffee can run the range of flavors from dirt to lemon. The darker the roast the less you taste the coffee and the more you taste the roast so are you seeking a roast level in the coffee you want to drink or are you looking for a particular flavor profile in their coffee?
