A friend sent me this link. I had to boggle a bit. He said the link that sent him there said cost was about $11K. A bit out of my range.

Whoever did the ad did a decent enough job at trying to attract left over hippies who are now aging yuppies, I think.

Would you buy one if you could afford it?

The world needs more outstanding coffee.

For that kind of money, I likely would be looking at the STEAM PUNK brewer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmM7kJP-lS4

A gimmick.

Unless there's only one recipe for fried rice, one (and only one) temperature to cook steak.  One "perfect" vehicle for everyone.  The "perfect" floorplan layout for any house.

Of course, there's only ONE perfect brew ratio and ONE perfect brewing method, and ONE perfect brewing temperature (sorry all you hi-altitude brewers - you're out of luck!, unless you brew in a pressure chamber).

Besides, the lack of technical information on their site (for all their expertise) is appalling.  It does look like (who knows - no principles of operation, you have to look up the patent) it uses immersion brewing, which can make a great cup of coffee but is somewhat wasteful due to the need to bump the dose to achieve similar strength at same extraction vs. percolation.

I do like the re-purposing of a portafilter - that's a kool feature.  It's one heckofan expensive AeroPress - but it IS what I asked for (a glass version of the AeroPress with metal filter).

Here's an interesting fact:  the word "gullible" is actually NOT in the dictionary!   Really!

You know those people that want to tell you how to raise your kids but have none of their own? That is how i feel when someone with a kitchen appliance tells me how the merits or dis-merits of my machine or how to use it.
