Personally, I like to have a dram in the evening every once in a while. I usually prefer a peaty Single Malt Scotch from Islay like Lagavulin, for example. ;-)

Probably not. Liquor and wine bottles were sized as per an INTERNATIONAL agreement -- and even then, the bottles didn't agree: the 750ml size was, according to the French the full capacity of the bottle without the cork (meaning the filled, sealed, labeled finished product contained 73cl), whereas the US took it to mean that the volume of liquid in the bottle as shipped to market was 75cl (750ml), so that took a couple of extra years to fix. And even then, many of the liquor and wine bottles not exported out of the EU are now 70cl.
The 1.75L bottle was an anomaly to have a size close to the US 1/2-gallon size of spirits.
