I did not want to say it, but it was Medici's on West Lynn I went to. Obviously I have to go back and give them another shot.
I did try Houndstooth on Lamar, mentioned at the Regional Forum thread, as it is closer to where I live. I chatted up the barista while he was making it, and I told him I just got my own machine at home and was trying new places. He dumped the 1st shot he made me, and I did enjoy the the one he gave me. Served with a glass of bubbly water, I might add. So all your good tips paid off.

I've so rarely had a decent espresso anywhere but home, I've quit ordering them. But I also am not a coffee shop person. Maybe because where I live I don't know of one I'd want to spend any time in anyway.
But if I was served a lousy shot and they wanted $3 for it, I'd say something. That's a lot of money IMO.

Just arrived home last night from Quebec Cruise. While aboard the ship there was a Java Cafe, and I saw they did espressos. The coffee on the ship was awful....in 3 days no good coffee, so I thought.....an espresso might be their forte!
I ordered one....noticed the pretty young thing ground the beans, tamped them down.....while she was doing it I was watching her.....she said, "I will serve you at the table!" I replied, "I just wanted to watch you pull a shot."
She turned around, fixed the shot in the Simonelli auto maching and pulled.....the whole holder with the tamped coffee shot off the top....guess it wasn't secured , and flew across the room. she glanced my way, picked up the holder, tamped the grounds out and did another one on the other side.
And, by the way, it was my very FIRST espresso.....thought if I got one on the Cruise to Quebec, it would be a nice memory....it was! And it WASN"T good!
So, my search for a first nice espresso continues. In South Louisiana, it's a rare thing!
