sammy3D Yes, I found the Bodum Bistro burr grinder to make a significant improvement in my coffee as well. I previously was using a Black & Decker flat burr grinder. My brewer recommendations are very close to those of BarryR . In the $25 range I prefer the Bodum French press. At $100 my choice is the 1 litre Espro press. I certainly prefer the Espro to the Bodum press but the difference was probably not quite as noticeable as the move to the Bodum Bistro conical burr grinder that you just bought.
Netphilosopher How did you mark the top burr? Is one orientation better than the other? I have some other grinder questions, but I will ask them in the Grinders section.

Netphilosopher - I used a grind setting around (-1) based on your scale for 8 ounces of coffee with 6.6g:4oz. This grind you are suggesting would likely work better for larger brews. I actually did 16oz in the Melitta Ready Set Joe this morning and filled my travel mug. I think something around the grind you recommend would have rendered a smoother cup as this cup was a bit harsh...but woke me up nicely. :-)

The kettle essential? No, but it gives you much greater control with any hand pour. Hario has competition these days and it seems expensive but those who do it without and later with say it did make a difference and made control much easier.
Before you spend a lot more money, start with upgrading the coffee a bit. Experiment with roasts, roasters, origins. If you are interested in trying french press, buy an inexpensive bodhum and play with it. If you find you really like one over the other, then look for a step up.

I have had a few days to experiment with the new Bodum grinder and the Mellita pour-over. I am very pleased so far with the results of the equipment. Actually weighing the coffee out is making quite a difference with the new equipment.
I am also enjoying making the coffee in the mornings. The coffee ritual with the pour-over makes it more of a hands on experience and enhances the morning. Wifey is even enjoying it and has changed her mind about the excessively simple Melitta device. This coming from her is rewarding as she really wanted a Keurig!
Fresh Roasted Coffee I am now on the next part of Upgrading my coffee setup...better coffee. I have been shopping around and looking at some of the internet suggestions for roasters. I have also been looking around the Atlanta area for roasters. Has to be at least one in metro Atlanta? Any Georgia folks know of any good coffee roaster shops around Atlanta?

Here's a graphic on my Bodum Bistro settings.
Regarding the "orientation", I just used a sharpie and keep one side "forward". Not sure why, but for whatever reason it seems to grind about a 1/2 step different depending on how the top burr is facing when reassembled.
Also, I've run into burr clash at -3 to -4, with clear signs of metal-to-metal contact (mostly on the top burr, the driven burr seems ok). Just keep this in mind if you're pushing fine grind - your grinder may have a completely different range.

Netphilosopher Thanks for the explanation regarding your Bodum Bistro grinder. You have also confirmed for me that the noise I heard when trying a fine grind was indeed burr clash.

Netphilosopher - Thank you for sharing the graphic for the Bistro grinder settings. I seem to be hovering between a -2 to + 2 grind for the Ready Set Joe. Leaning towards the finer grind as it slows the Melitta pourover down for a bit longer extraction.
