I'm looking at applying to be a barista at one of my favorite local coffee shops, and was just wondering if anyone had any tips for the resume or know of any specific things that coffee shops typically look for.
In the last month I just purchased my first espresso setup (Rocket Cellini and Baratza Vario) after lurking around these forums and being interested in espresso for over a year. I don't have too much experience with it yet, so I might need a little bit of training (which the ad said is alright), but I'm extremely eager to learn.

If you have any experience being a barista before, mention it in your resume. Specify what your tasks were. What are the equipments you’ve handled? Coffee shop owners are looking for people that require less or no training.  Good luck to you.

Since your experience is limited, I would make sure to let your possible employer know how motivated and positive you are. I would much rather hire a happy, motivated person than an experienced, flat personality person who might need to be retrained anyway.

I tend to agree with Mitch, training is all dependent on where you received the training. A business owner likely would rather have an eager person apply (you might want to mention your rather sizable investment) who is willing to learn the shops methods than someone with an excellent reference who is going to fight the owner at every turn.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. Yeah, I'm definitely hoping to play the positive/enthusiastic card. I mean all baristas have to receive training from somewhere, so of course there are going to be people who are new to the scene (at least to the service side).
Working as a barista would be an amazing experience if I can get the job, as I'd start working right around the time I'm starting to get to know my own machine, which I'm hoping would speed up the learning curve.
