First of all, we can talk about hot dogs... my wife makes the best hot dogs with home made chili and home made coleslaw on them.  Now about the Bunns... others have thought I was talking about buns, which is ok, too.  But I agree with you about the Bunn coffeemakers, everyone who I know that has one swears by them.  And last but not least, I have seen that lady from Bunn on here before addressing some of the issues with the leaking carafe on the new Bunn Thermal Coffeemaker.  She took comments to quality control and to engineering so I know she is very proactive... and I agree, it is nice to have these reps on the forum to monitor potential problems with their products.  You can bet that they know this forum reaches out to a large number of very knowledgeable coffee afficionados, hence it absolutely is in their best interest to monitor what goes on here.
Nice collection of Bunns, by the way.

Wayne, does it really look that bad?  ...and I'm glad (for your sake) that your wife likes your Bunns!  My wife doesn't drink coffee either and she's never complained about my Bunns either...lol.

UH, I think I was misunderstood!

If it looks good, and it makes coffee that is better than it looks, then the coffee must be outstanding....!

Not intended to dig at it's looks, I like the way it looks. Sorry for my statement that could have been taken the wrong way!

I was pretty sure that was what you meant, Wayne, but since we were kind of joking I felt I had to dig at you a little bit.  Thanks for the nice answer.  Long live the Bunns!

Hey wsikes. I just bought the same one :) I had the old one for nearly 12 years and loved it to bits, until one day a combination of problems i created by not taking good care of it caused it to give up the ghost so to speek (I wasnt the coffee geek I am now). I had to have coffee quick so i bought a cheapy hamilton beach from walmart and yyyyyyuuuuccckkk! Long story short it lasted 3 days till i found the velosity on sale for $100 and snagged it up quick. my life is complete again. It is amazing how much difference the proper brew temp. makes on even cheep coffee.

William... can I call you Bill?????

EDit, why would Bill be a nick name for William? I know in general, it is true but isn't it odd??? I am too lazy, sorry, William is your name and it really does not take much longer to type than Bill so William it is! End edit.

I kind of thought that it was taken as a joke but sometimes....... without visual cues, typed messages can take on a different meaning than was intended but yes, joke on back anytime!

I have that same model at home and liked it so much I bought one for the office.  A couple of things that I have found to improve the experience.

1) Use Bunn filters- they have no detectible (to me ) paper taste and flow faster than other brands.  I order the slightly taller version that is made for the commercial brewers as they are less likely to overflow.

2) I originally used the flow restriction head to prevent the overflow but have returned to the original head and changed my technique instead.  The flow restriction head does not distribute the water evenly enough and will not give you a full extraction of all grounds as the original five-hole head will.  To prevent overflow I start by pouring the water into the reservoir and close the lid for 8-10 seconds (depending on the amount of coffee I am brewing) I then swivel the lid back around to stop the water flow.  After the coffee has bloomed about 45 seconds I re-close the lid and allow the brewing cycle to complete.  This process has given me coffee that rivals any standard brewed coffee I can buy period.

3) A good grinder is a must to avoid over/under extracted coffee.  A refurb Baratza will fit the bill nicely as would any of the other entry level premium grinders.  Stay on the finer side of drip grind to match the quick brew times.

Wayne... that was Batman's last name, right?  Have you ever looked at the bottom of my posts?  I sign "Bill" because that is what folks call me.  I use wsikes as a username but don't ask me why I don't use bsikes... I don't know.  Call me whatever you want... no problem at all.  Are you going to get in on the Holiday bean swap?
