My first stop at the SCAA in Portland will be to Joe's booth. Look for a Tweet on Friday, April 20th at 11am PST if the cat isn't out of the bag before that.

As Gort was an assistant to Klaatu, I had been assuming that the device would assist the the roaster (or the Roaster), ergo a temperature monitor/logger.
But, JB has said that it has nothing to do with roasters.
Couple of potentials: -A hi-end grinder -A hi-end or specialized brewer or espresso machine
Maybe, a storage system for green or roasted beans (seems very anticlimactic).
A grind measurement device?
A roast level measurement device?
I have heard that someone was working on a new home roller mill/pulverizer for coffee "grinding". I have no idea whether it's JB or not. Rollers have much better particle distribution and shape (depending on who you talk to) vs. traditional burr or disc grinders. They're sized for industrial throughput, but downsizing for home and reasonable cost could possibly usurp Vario and Ditting from their top position for coffee grinding.
Something like that for home use would be pretty revolutionary. The particle distribution charts comparing roller-mill vs. burr grinding are very impressive. With people willing to pay upwards of a KiloBuck for a grinder and many times >$200 for a "decent" grinder, this would be the first roller-mill home-use coffee mill... ever.
But, these are just musings.
