Has anyone found a decent iPhone / iPad app for tracking the coffees you've tried? I frequently find myself in the whole bean section of my favorite roaster or grocer and can't remember what I have or haven't tried. Which ones I like and why.
Ha. :) Yeah. I seem to do a better job of keeping my iPhone with me than a paper notebook. It would also be nice to have some search and sort ability, which doesn't work so great with paper.
I already use the built-in Notes app quite extensively. I guess I could use that, but I suspect a custom interface would allow you to add and find things quicker. If there isn't something decent already out there, maybe I will build one.

There is an app called Roastmaster, it is a great app for Roasting coffee and keeping track of beans and notes on them however it is $9.99 and probably overkill for what you are looking for. A cheap solution is to just use the "Notes" app that comes with the iPhone for keeping records, I find it very useful and you can email any info to yourself (or anyone else) easily.
You're right, Notes wouldn't really be that great as far as cataloging and searching past beans. Since, as far as I know, there's no coffee-purposed app for your needs, definitely expand your scope. I could see how an app meant for perhaps scholarly notes or bibliographies could be used for coffee, or even just the Google Docs app (though I'm not sure if the search is any good on iOS). Or, yes, you could indeed build something. And let us know when you do!
I've been using the Roastmaster app for the last couple of months. Keeps track of roasts as you would expect, but also tracks beans and inventory as well as recording cupping notes. Great app.

I did poke around at the suggestions, but did not really find anything that met my needs. I did start working on an app for this specific purpose. Is it acceptable for me to post info about what I'm working on and solicit input related to it here? I see a "No commercial posting" rule. Don't want to get into hot water (pun intended) with anyone.

I don't think there would be a problem to get suggestions for creating your app or discussing it. The rule applies more to trying to sell your commercial wares here. Roastmaster would cover your needs but is expensive for keeping just those records, I think if you could make a user friendly app just for bean records it could do very well.
