This is why Starbucks has been serving that crappy Pikes Place roast for the last year. If SB was the only place to stop in for a fresh cup of coffee, the only thing they had (besides decaf) seemed to always be Pikes Place. If most of their coffee tastes over roasted, "burnt", whatever, the Pikes Place stuff is like the complete opposite, only not in a good way. It's bland to the point of depressing; like it was completely lacking in phenols. It is a coffee version of alcohol free wine. So when I took the 'via challenge' (hey, free cup of coffee) I have to admit; they made an instant coffee that tastes just like that crappy Pikes Place Roast. Except that it still has that instant coffee edge to the aroma, kind of like someone drank Sanka out of the cup before you, and didn't wash it out.
