Intelligentsia is so good that they changed all my expectations from coffee. Also I've heard that Counter Culture and Stumptown are in the same class as well.
Counter Culture might be my favorite because UPS ground delivers from them to my door in 2 days and because I love their Toscano espresso blend.
But honestly, all of these roasters do great work. Deciding on a coffee for a week is a real challenge. So much new stuff I want to try and old favorites I want to go back to. If it weren't for caffeine overload, I would drink coffee all day.
The Limoncillo that SM sells is the standard lot, whereas the Limonceillo that we have is the Cup of Excellence Auction Lot. I think both lots are an excellent coffee, but there is a huge difference between the two in terms of coffee processing/sorting, and price.
You are also comparing green coffee prices to roasted coffee prices, which is like comparing apples to oranges. Our price for 1 lb green of the CoE lot is $29.95. Of course we are still higher in price than SM, but again, they are two different coffees. Even for roasted coffee, I would expect our prices to be a bit pricier, because we roast 20 lbs (or less) at a time - truly hand-crafted coffees, and something we are very proud of. A good portion of roasters out there are roasting in batches of 130 lbs+.
I have a couple favorites, but it depends where you live. I live in Florida, and get my orders fairly quickly from my two current favorites, both in Key West.
Thanks RobertKWFL for reminding me of Paradise Roasters. I visited their site a long time ago but then forgot their store name when I was did a search on Google.
