After having people drop in this weekend hoping I'd offer a coffee (I did) I started to wonder how much of my roasts I actually consummed myself. I did some rough calculations and came up with a number between 25 - 30 %. I always give roasted beans away to folks who really love the roast, up to half of a 1000g batch, though not always that much. On days off, someone is always over for coffee so I rarely drink alone ( my wife isn't a coffee drinker). So it looks like on the high side I drink 30% of what I roast. I don't consider myself a nice guy and I don't have a lot of friends so I'm thinking that some of you nice and gregarious folk out there would getting even less of your home brew.

I probably give away about 1/3 of what I roast - and lots of green beans to those who want to get started with home roasting.
I got introduced to this great hobby by a friend who did the same thing for me many months ago, and now it seems like the least I can do is pass it along to others.
Ha! an honest man! Craig, you roast every day?! Honestly, I wish I could find it in me to give more coffee away. The truth is, I find homeroasting a little messy and don't really enjoy all of the set up and take down required to do it and want it to last as long as possible so that I can avoid the work. If fact, I'm so selfish I sometimes only offer my guests the option of tea or juice! But there is great satisfaction in having people comment on how good the coffee is when I do serve it. But I've not yet served a guest that liked it enough to start roasting their own. Barry.
