According to a taste test by Mark Prince, espresso is the worst way to make this coffee. Aeropress came out first. See his post over on coffeed.com:

I am drinking it Aeropressed right now, it is real good, not remarkable but a pure clean flavor. The board said it was roasted about a week and a half before I bought it. I had them grind it just right for my Aeropress. With my registered Starbucks card and 1 lb purchase I got a free tall brewed in store. I thought it was rather bitter and a little weak. I am learning that I prefer coffee roasted a little darker, but I like this black with no cream or sugar.

I actually like it more than their previous house roast. I tend to like a milder blend, and IMO they nailed it. Good job, Starbucks

Today's NY Times notes that Starbucks might be a big loser in the $4 gallon gasoline world....one  that looks as if it might stay around for a long time. Casual restaurants were also in the target zone. The Olive Garden is hopefully laser-locked as we speak.

The folks at Starbucks  have their hands full. Don't get me wrong......I'm not getting misty about it....for a change, some big businesses ought to bite the proverbial bad investment strategy/wrong place/wrong time bullet.

At least Starbucks initiated a move toward re-thinking coffee. Can't say that the casual chain restaurants have contributed much beyond carbs.

If it comes down to gas to get to Grandma's house or a Vente Latte one-third skim, one-third soy, one-third goat's milk, no fat , low calorie hazelnut/caramel syrup, non-fat whipped Kreme, with extra foam for $3.75............Starbucks and the Big Bad Wolf will become strange bedfellows. The book in Vegas is heavily in their favor.

One thing I'll give Starbucks.....they'll be flexible as all get up and go. The new staff verbal banter/blather is just another sort of fluff. They'll likely re-visit their drink menu and perhaps make more of a deal over their non-espresso prearations. Ceramic cups may become a matter of course rather than the result of customer nagging. Perhaps they'll even ban laptops one day a week.

I wonder if they will ever brew it with the Clover that they liked so much they bought the whole company.
