I had to try it, I typically refuse to buy espresso from starbucks and am not a fan of their drip but i was tempted and absolutely loved the pikes place, it was nice and smooth, not necessarily as strong as i usually like but i could taste so many interesting flavors in it. Anyone else try it and like it, i bought a half pound to use in my press.
My son brought over a bag of Pike Place. Ground some for drip.....very good. It's even good @ Starbucks, which is an achievement. Haven't tried it as espresso, but imagine it could pass the test. Starbucks produced a somewhat silly PR stunt with the few hour shutdown.............Hopefully there will be new emphasis on coffee instead of drinks that coincidentally contain coffee. Press pot service would be a tremendous plus.
Yah, I usually stay away from mild blends but I really loved this, there were so many flavors i found it very dynamic, too bad it's coming from Starbucks. On the 1/2 pound bag they write "scooped on", I don't care when it was scooped on, i want to know when it was roasted.
I have a card that was from a local newspaper that will let me have a free tall Pike's Place coffee every Wednesday until the end of May, and this past Wednesday I went and got some. I posted this over at Mark's recent Starbucks article feedback as well, but I thought it was pretty decent and I was actually able to drink it black. Can't say that about their other blends, but they were brewing it when I ordered so I had to wait a bit to get it. It was definitely dark (no surprise) and strong but the flavor wasn't too harsh. I'll probably go back for a few more before the card expires, but I still prefer my own home roasted coffee from the press. I don't know if that will ever change.
Edit - "scooped on" dates seem a bit pointless to me...that doesn't really give any relevant info.
Yah, it seems like they're trying to pull this stunt where they make all their fans feel like they're a small company with alot of heart that really gives a crap about their coffee..like peets but its just not the case. The whole scooped on is to me seems like some stunt to make people who really don't care about their coffee but want to act like they do feel like they're really being precise. God I don't think that makes sense.

Look on the bottom on one of their menu boards.....it tells you when it was roasted (date) and at which plant (it's hand written). In general, the Pike Place Roast is in the store within two or so weeks of roasting at the plant.

I have a theory on this.
Some marketing person was writing up a menu. But the person had attrocious handwriting. So later, when the printers got the copy, they read "small" as "tall".
I had purchased a 1/2 pound bag of Pike Place from a Starbucks that opened last week and mine had a roast date and the town/state it was roasted in. Stopped in a different one today after a business dinner and all the bags there had the scooped on sticker so I passed on buying any. The main reason I initially bought it in the first place was the roast date sticker (which was March 28 in York, PA, so a little over two weeks old when I bought it) but maybe mine was a fluke at it was a brand new store.
I was surprised that I liked this one, but only after I brewed it myself. Also, I noticed the original logo on the Pikes Place cups, but not on the coffee bags.
After reading this thread, I had some a pike place coffee today. There is a small black board stated the roast date is 3/23. It taste pretty good with just two bags of raw sugar in a grande.
