Mark, the foam produced in the first half of the pot is probably the C02 bloom, being washed out of the coffee bed. I did a brew of coffee in day 2 from roasting and ...gee whiz ...I had almost half a potful of it.
I agree with everything you said in your review.
I am currently working through the prob of how to fill the basket with grinds while keeping them within the seal and not all over the counter and kitchen floor.

I see the last post here is from 2010. I used the Moka brew when I lived in France and bought one long Ago, as soon as is became available in the U.S. Does anyone know where to get a new carafe for the moka brew? Mine has a crack :(
