Some ideas for "How to" follow: Matching better gold filters with different coffee makers How to set up Technivorm and others with US electrical outlets (the Technivorm show 230 and 240 volts How to pick coffee makers for espresso and nonespresso How to pick legitimate vendors for coffee, accessories, etc.
Different topic. Has anyone used Quick220 to link two 110 volts for 220 appliances? Seems like it might work BUT!!!
I'm new and this is probably wrong place, wrong time and wrong dimension but be gentle and just tell me so.
I know there are no stupid questions, just stupid people asking questions.

Drip: Technivorm Clubline Thermo
Posted Tue Dec 12, 2006, 10:03pm Subject: Re: How To Articles - ready to EXPLODE - so give us ideas!
Hi, this is my first post. I have been a leisurely reader of coffe geek for awhile, but have only seriously used the site for research since my Starbucks Barista Aroma (which had a terrible brew temp) was recalled. I then bought the Zojirushi Fresh Brew, but didn't like that one at all... it is on its way back to Amazon, and on its way instead is the Technivorm Clubline Therm. Well, now I realize I need a grinder! This task has been more daunting than shopping for a coffee-maker... there are many strong opposing feelings about various grinders on this site :) I appreciate a good espresso, however, I do not make it in my home just yet. Therefore, I don't need a crazy grinder, but one that will suffice for drip. I saw that the Kitchen Aid Pro Line on Amazon is $99 (this is the red one that people say was the earlier model that had some minor issues) Issues aside, is this grinder the best deal for espresso-less me? Is there something better in the same price range you would recommend? Thanks in advance for your help!

I have to second the request for "How to make espresso.", gods of obviousness be darned. If it exists, I can't find it.
I would especially like to know when the 20-25 second rules starts. Is it from the time I push the button or from the time espresso starts dripping from my portafilter?

old old thread, but maybe mark's listening...
for those of us already dabbling in home roasting, how's about how to make an espresso blend? how to make a drip blend? there's obviously lots of literature and magazines out there devoted to this, but a "how to" that covers the bases and a subsequent thread...ok, so a lot of this stuff is already buried in the forums archives, but it'd be nice to bring it all together.

I second the 'Basics' theme.
The milk frothing guide is awesome. I learned a lot and really improved my technique.
I was mystified, though, that there was not a basic how-to showing preparation of grounds in the portafilter, leveling, tamping, then the basics of what to look for in the progression of the shot. Now that Christmas has just blown through town all the new espresso machine owners are popping up with LOTS of questions.
I'd also like to see more how-tos for maintenance. The Rocky cleaning article comes to mind as an excellent example of this.
The suggestions for things like educating the palate for espresso sound great, too.
