How about just taking 9 espressos, putting them in a mug and telling people it's just plain coffee??!?!?!?! ;-)
I do this on many afternoons and the occasional Saturday morning......only a few people know what I'm really drinking.....an it frightened them. For fear of ridicuale, I keep it secret ;-)
But if you REALLY want a pick-me-up-and-shake-me-around-by-the-throat kind of drink......try it.

A guy at the local 'bucks turned me on to this one. In the afternoons, I would often get an Americano to sip on while working or especially during long meetings. A Shot in the Dark is basically an Americano made with coffee instead of hot water. VERY tasty and perfect for a long meeting or long drive where an espresso wouldn't last well.

Drank it for years, called it a Red Eye. At Eureka Joe, then Starbucks. But it depends too much on the quality of the brewed coffee, so I switched to Americano's.

Depth Charge? The local coffee shop call it that. I've used these tricks for years. It's not uncommon to see me with a nice tall glass of espresso. I also take a thermos of it to work for those extra long days.

Depth Charges, as far as I know, are alcoholic. Large mug of whatever is on tap, drop in a shot glass half-full of something hard. I know no details, but hopefully someday I'll be a qualified barkeep. My personal brew consists of three double espresso and about a tablespoon of dark roast joe -- Simply because I don't handle straight espresso that well. I only started drinking it last year. A thermos of espresso? Now that would be fun to pass around at a rock concert ;)

I just started this a couple months ago. I start a vacuum pot of home-roasted coffee...and when it has begun the trip south, I pull a double shot. After pouring my first cup of vacpot brew, I toss in the espresso. MMMMmmmm...how rich and rewarding! Granted, the first few sips of my second (non-turbo) cup of coffee taste rather weak and bland - but that fades and the clean, fresh taste of the plain coffee rises up for the next couple of cups.

I have regular customers who need the higher octane than others. Often one shot in my 20oz Grande size is more than enough to get the porch light on again. We also find that this works very well for flavor if coffee con leche where the brewed coffee taste is to weak when diluted with milk.
