As promised, here's a thread that shows exactly what you'll be getting if you bid on the Aliens espresso cup set we have up for auction currently, generously donated by 1st in Coffee.

This is an extremely rare "Artist's Proof" set. You almost never see these in the wild.

The Aliens Set was sold in two incarnations - the normal illy collections boxed set that contained cups numbered up to 32,000 - and the very limited "spaceship" special release, with only (I've been told) 250 sets made, featuring the unique spaceship holder container.

Not for sale were the Artists' Proof sets, in the special box. I believe only 15 of these were made, all given (in this case) to David Byrne. This is one of those sets up for auction.

Jim has more on his website, including other illy offerings.

Here's what the bottom of the cups look like.

The box and spaceship look like this.

Again, big thanks to 1st in Coffee for this beyond-generous donation.

Here's a more detailed look at the spaceship.

And lastly, a three-up photo showing the container, cups and such.

1st in Coffee is where I always get my own illy cups from, and Jim is always on top of the latest sets. Buy a machine from him and see what price he'll give you on getting some amazing illy collection cups - no guarantees, but I bet you'll find it nice ;)

The auction goes until December 30, closing at 10pm. I love this stuff! ;) And I'm definitely in the running. I have my own high price I'm ready to bid - do you have yours?
