Most curious to find out when you will be done. I had an ellimatic which died recently, and was wondering if you knew how the oscar changed from the design of the elli. Also, steaming and frothing details are important. Anyway, email me or post your response here. Look forward to it. Regards Ed

I'm also very eager to see the full review! Questions I'd like to see answered include: is Oscar the best HE machine in this price range? Could it even be the lowest priced HE machine of them all? What about reservoir size compared to other models? Isn't the Oscar's reservoir same size as most other machines, i.e. around two litres? Also, can the ground model be converted to pod use (first look just mentions the opposite conversion)? Will the plastic scratch and/or discolor? Does the silver Oscar look good with the silver Mini? ;)

In answer to Ed's question, the Oscar is totally different than the Elli, as different as any 2 HE machines can be. It was clean sheet redesign, so none of the components from the Elli were carried over. They are similar in they have the same omissions intended to make the machines the low price leader in the HE category (for example, plastic skin, omission of the vacuum breaker, lack of water tap and the small water reservoir) but otherwise completely different.
Thanks for the very illuminating review. I did have a few questions, in addition to the obvious "when will the detailed review be published"?:
I assume it goes without saying that the Oscar has a solenoid valve to allow immediate portafilter removal?
Is it really durable enough to leave it on 24/7 safely, as recommmended on Cafemaker's web site? Having to walk downstairs to turn it on half an hour before I need it in the morning is really a pain.
Can one get good results without going through the elaborate cleaning process you adhere to between shots?

durability is still a question mark in my mind and i have had the machine for 2 years. in those 2 years i replaced the original p'stat 3 times. more recently i sent my oscar to chris at chriscoffee (.com) and he was able to retrofit my oscar with a new commercial sirai p'stat. hopefully this will remedy the one problem i have had with this machine.
i usually back flush mine once a day and have had great results (once you dial in the grinder; i use a rocky)
i should note that all new oscars now come with the commercial sirai p'stat.

Why is the detailed review cancelled? :( Oscar is first in my "would-probably-buy-sometime-in-future" list and I was hoping the detailed review would either finally convince me or let me look for some other machine.

Okay, time to come clean on this one. In the end, Nuova Simonelli did good... so here goes.
I was in the midst of evaluating the Oscar, V1, when NS was way overdue on paying an advertising bill. Repeated notices via email and phone were first ignored, then the bill was disputed. My only recourse was to sell the machine they supplied, prior to doing the Detailed Review, to recoup a portion of the monies they owed the website.
The review was cancelled because of this.
Last fall, NS contacted me and issued major apologies for their actions. We came to an understanding. They paid the delinquent bill, and even prepaid for new advertising. They also asked if I would reconsider revieiwing the Oscar, this time with the new pressurestat. In the early spring, I got the new machine, and while I haven't had time to give it any real evaluation yet, soon, the First Look will be revamped, and by September (hopefully), I'll have a DR published.
