I've had my Rocky a few years now. Just did a routine thorough cleaning of Rocky. I always re-check my "zero" at this time. It dawned me I totally disagree with the method of finding Rocky's zero commonly talked about, including this review. Which is namely to turn on and slowly dial burrs closer together until you hear the barest sound of steel on steel. Never made sense to me because barest sound of steel on steel means the finely sharpened burrs are indeed barely touching and hence dulling, even if just slightly, so I don't do it! I find zero manually, powered off, turning burrs by hand via the nut.

Hi Mike,

Sorry, that's not true. The Rocky's 50mm burrs are machined flat on the outer circumferences edge of both burrs & these surfaces will only touch. The downward inner sloping cutting edges of the burrs drop away from this flat area & never touch.

Hi David,

Welcome to the Coffeegeek forums! {;-)

First off, do you know where your grinders "zero" point is as described above?

Hi David,

On JavaChatter you said:

I guess my zero point is where I do not hear the burrs touching.

No, your zero point is just the opposite.. When adjusting down finer & finer, it's when you hear the burrs lightly touch.
