Hello,
I would just like to say that when I was visiting Amsterdam recently (nice city, not very large) I found that Starbucks was the cheapest café in the central part of the city, which surprised me because the others were quite expensive. I heard that there is a cheaper cafe toward the outskirts but as a tourist this didn't concern me. In the USA, Starbucks is often a bit more expensive or the same as other places.

I have to agree that Starbucks deserves a lot of credit for transplanting espresso culture into the United States. Once I started grinding and making my own coffee, I got to the point where I couldn't enjoy Starbucks any more. I finally came to taste the overroasting that so many complained about. Still, it's way better than 7-11 drip coffee, which is what the country was drinking before!
