I agree withone of the posts...,esp RGBI.
I think its a novel idea, especially for those on the run and in a hurry.
However, the scale mechanism is one more thing that can break on the grinder. I'm all about "KISS", keep it simple stupid. I prefer having a separate scale.
If I do decide to purchase one, i'll wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation version to come out.

When I mentioned, "If it's not broke don't fix it" it was defenitely the espresso only view. The fact is the Vario timer is the best ever for my situation. Besides cutting a yogurt container to trap all grounds in the portifilter I feel like I have the best grinder for strictly espresso.

Waste isn't just measured in beans but also time. These could be a REAL time saver for a busy pour bar. Especially if offering multiple size pour over cups of multiple beans. One grinder for each bean offered, each grinder with presets for the different size cups selectable on the fly. Sweet. Major time saver. Potentially equals both increased customer satisfaction through faster service and labor savings in the long run.

Mark, You lost us on the point about waste in a cafe setting. Every shop I've been to that does single cup brewing well premeasures doses and runs them through a Guatemala or Ditting or similar grinder. There's no waste above whatever it takes to dial in a particular coffee to determine the correct dose. And you can run any coffee at any time during service as long as you have it pre-dosed (which is simple to do). So we're not getting the point on savings. Are we missing something here?

Not sure if anyone has said this before or even cares, but...
I have a Baratza Starbucks Barista grinder and wanted to know if it worked with the Essato attachment since it has the body of a Maestro Plus but doesn't have the timer.
I emailed Baratza today and got confirmation that the Essato will indeed work with the Barista. Great news.

This sounds like an awesome idea and product. Lots of negative comments but how can you judge something before it even hits the shelves and gets put to use? So many skeptics out there. You guys should just be happy people like Kyle is trying to come up with things to improve the industry. This doesn't seem like a gimmick to me, it sounds like a foundation for how things should be.

We are nothing on enthusiast forums if we aren't playing armchair quarterback from time to time. We've all done it, myself included. Though I do try these days to reserve critical comments unless I've actually tried something.

I'm not sure that there is any criticism of these products per se which, after all, as you say I for one have not tried. How ever I do feel quite strongly that when you introduce a new idea you have to convince the consumer that this is something he or she needs. From the way I brew coffee ie weighing the beans prior to grinding I am somewhat sceptical about the usefulness of this product for me personally.
I would certainly love to try this product. Maybe I am indeed missing something. Unfortunately this is a catch 22 situation in that I have to buy the product to find this out and before I'm going to do that I have to be sold on the product in the first place.
Perhaps it's just not aimed at me or people like me but I don't feel that this any criticism of the product nor, for that matter, do I see my view as negative. Just because someone doesn't have a use for something doesn't mean it isn't a great product for someone else.
