Thank you for a delightful article on Portuguese coffee. It completely captures the atmosphere of that beautiful country and its people. The writing reminds me very much of Edouard de Pomiane's charming book "Cooking In Ten Minutes". Different country, same sensitivities. Returning to Portugal, how should "galao' be pronounced?
And will any Brazilians out there - with their Portugese heritage - let us know if they celebrate a similar coffee appreciation? Thank you, in anticipation.

I for one am not Portuguese but loved the story just the same. I have been to Portugal both on business and on vacation and found the culture to be one of the friendliest anywhere. I did experience the espresso frenzy and must add that my love for the cup originated there and therefore Portugal will always hold a special place in my heart for giving me my espresso.

Love the article. Was looking up everything I may need to know about Portugal and came upon this interesting and insightful article. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! We will definitely make our way around to all the local and well-loved coffee shops/houses.

Grande artigo caro João. Estou muito surpreendido por encontrar aqui no fórum um Português. Não estava mesmo nada à espera.
Só tenho uma coisa a apontar. Não sei se é o seu caso, mas no artigo li que considera a Buondi como uma das marcas de café mais populares em Portugal. Pessoalmente é raro encontrar cafés que sirvam essa marca. Costumo encontrar mais Nicola, Delta, sical, Tofa e Torrié, apesar de não gostar nada do café das ultimas duas marcas.
A maior parte do café que bebo advém de uma pequena cafeteira italiana que tenho em casa. Talvez por hábito, prefiro mil vezes o café dela (costumo usar grãos Delta ou Sical).
Aproveito para perguntar se conhece alguma loja em Lisboa/Almada/Cascais que realmente se dedique a café "gourmet" e se também conhece alguma loja onde possa encontrar bons moínhos de café manuais ( e possivelmente uma Bialetti Brikka).
