Some short followups

If you're intending to write something, could you either mention it in this thread, or email me at info@coffeegeek.com - I want to get a sense of how many possible entries we'll have for this competition.

Second, please use this thread to seek out people you may want to interview or get opinions from (ie, home roasters, I'm looking for quotes!)... you can also of course use the other forums suited for your topic if you choose.

Cheers

Mark

Hi..whoever wrote the following quoted section from the contest description was probably just a touch tired.
The quote..."Everyone except for immediate employees and volunteers for CoffeeGeek and their immediate families are eligible for submitting an entry."
How about eliminating 2 of the "for's", rearranging a bit and we get..."Everyone other than CoffeeGeek employees, volunteers, and their immediate families are eligible to enter."
Just my contribution to the cause...and... IBAWriter! :-)
Best of luck (and inspiration) to all!

Hey, I have a huge update. The SCAA is donating a full conference pass ($465 value) to the winning author. This gets you into almost everything save for the Friday Intensives and skill building workshops. It's a huge addition to this competition!

The main page has been updated. The prize for the winning article is now valued at over $1,400!

PS Rob, thanks for the typo correction :)

Mark...you are most welcome....with your schedule, it's amazing you're able to think, let alone type!
I think I'll sit this one out, but I'm looking forward to reading all the terrific articles to come....

Since I had decided to go this year just a day or two before this post, I am quite excited about writing an article...

I am interested in knowing who else has plans to write an article.

But what I really would like is quotes from anyone on the subject of:
Consumer knowledge, specifically in the area of ethics and the "coffee crisis,"

Baisically any opinions or knowledge about how much the average consumer actually knows, and is exposed to concerning this topic.

I'm excited to see the final results of this contest!

Wow Mark that's a great addition to the prize.  Now all you need to add is airfare for two from anywhere in North America (say, for instance, Edmonton) ;-)

This contest could produce some great results.  I'm particularily interested in the idea Karnin is exploring.  We, I, drink coffee daily without more than a brief thought as to where the coffee is produced or what the farmers and their families go through to provide us with a quality indulgence.

It's articles such as "Above and Beyond - Grower Relationships"  organizations such as "CoffeeKids", your efforts on this site and people such as Karnin who understand our societies' priviledged position that keep these issues influential in the decisions we make daily regarding where we spend our money, time and energy.

While I am still debating if I have anything worthwhile to contribute to this contest, I am anticipating some challenging and educational reading ahead.

Mark - Peace to you and your family in this difficult time.

Geoff

I must say, writing this article is probably more rewarding than if I were to win the prize! It is amazing what a little forced creativity and research will do for one's passion.  I hope everyone else involved is enjoying the challenge as much as I am.
Best wishes!

I think this article contest will be a great boost for coffeegeek's content.  To make the this even more effective, perhaps additional prizes for second, third place etc be offered.  There must be a whole stack of neat toys laying around the coffeegeek offices that could be given away to contestants that put in great efforts.  Be there not only one winner.

It is also true however that publishing alone is award enough.

Subject: Deadline Extension for the Writing Competition

Just a quick note... I've extended the deadline on this competition until March 21, 2004, due to me needing some time off for the family situation.

Also note - right now,  I have only three submitted entries - your odds of winning this great prize look pretty good right now if you submit an article!
