If in the future you do another comparison, I would be happy to provide some French and Italian adresses.
Its funny, because I had the opposite experience. I thought I would try American and also English (thinking AngloSaxon tastes) and to this day nothing compares to my local Roaster in Annecy France.
We have 2 Roasters in our town who have over 50 different coffees including Hawaiin, Jamaican etc and they do a great job. Its actually a large part of life in France, to go out and get fresh bread (Croissants, baguettes) and Freshly roasted coffee. I might have to ask myself, that this society has more consciousness at the ordinary guy level to go out and buy freshly roasted coffee, than americans who buy at large supermarkets and would have to send away for fresh roasted.
