ahh, yes. Further proof that some people are more concerned with the experience of shop atmosphere than they are with the experience of the coffee. I love to find both in the same place, but it's just amazing to me how many people will settle for one or the other.
the desire we have to share experiences, to simply be together, seems to tell us that people are supposed to be with other people and enjoy time in each other's company
i like motorcycles and dogs. i really don't get along with people.

I dont know if it was out of sympathy or sarcasm, but I could not help but laugh as I finished this article. Even so, it was written very well and tied together like a neat little package.

So you'd consider yourself a social drinker? What causes what? The coffee causes the chance for "fulfilling contacts, more intimate interaction, and deeper understandings". Or does the interaction cause the coffee? As you said, the coffee isn't truly worth the effort/time/money, but the atmosphere makes up for it. My question is, "Is coffee truly necessary?" How, exactly, do the unique qualities of overpriced caffeinated products and baked goods work together so harmoniously to promote this fulfillment of deep social needs? Perhaps the magic behind these coffee shops is the presence of comfy chairs. Mix that with a staple to modern Americans' lives and you've got both the hook and bait. People come for the coffee; they come back for the comfy chairs and the people who fill them.
