So money to fund the SCAA is a large focus of the show, with Starbucks being an exception?. Prices went UP for the general attendance, but the sponsor with the most money gets a deal... what a massive contradiction.

Conference does cost a lot. It's hard to get this point across to people who don't have to cover their own hotel costs, their own conference costs, their own employee costs, and the costs associated with leaving your place of business for up to a week. Back in the day, many who ran the show did know these things, but perhaps this sense has gotten lost with time...
My conference pass is costing me nothing. It wasn't hard to do - I just volunteered.
I know the show is expensive - but there are a thousand volunteer opportunities. Sign up to be a station instructor, or a runner, or to work at the WBC, etc etc.

Great review of what to expect from the show.
Yeah--the amount Starbucks had to pony up to be the platinum sponsor is a disgrace. The amount should be 5 times that.
For that amount--I should have ponied up my saving and had my pic hung from banners everywhere Mao style.
And I think the pods class sucks.
Wish I had thought of it sooner, but wanted to print shirts that said:
Back to the Future? The Pursuit of Perfection? PUCK FODS
Maybe too confrontational. But as Trish like to remind me...I like to start trouble. To me its the first unwritten rule of Third Wave. Challenge the second!!!
In my opinion the pods class is really a pretty lame thing to have at the SCAA...
Thats not to say there are not ALOT of other very valuable classes.
And I highly recomend volunteering. Honestly I feel like I learn more this way--and its way cheaper!!

Excellent info. I've been asking in the forums for more info on what a Cmember can expect to find at the SCAA conference and you delivered, Mark. I'll be there for at least one day, probably Saturday. Looking forward to meeting some of you there.
